KABUL (Kokcha.News) — Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Taliban’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with a US delegation led by Adam Boehler, Special Envoy of US President Donald Trump, which also included Dr. Zalmay Khalilzad, the former US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation. The meeting focused on expanding bilateral relations, addressing issues related to detainees, and exploring opportunities for investment and development in Afghanistan.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of continuing discussions on various bilateral issues, particularly concerning the detainees held in each other’s countries. Foreign Minister Muttaqi referenced the previous talks in Doha between the two sides, stating that there is now a good opportunity to normalize relations and that there are no complex issues that would make reconciliation difficult.
Adam Boehler, head of the US delegation, expressed condolences for the recent earthquake in Afghanistan’s eastern provinces and described his previous visit to Kabul as fruitful. He stressed that both sides should follow up on past meetings to achieve positive outcomes. Boehler also reiterated that the US respects Afghanistan’s independence and does not intend to impose anything on the Afghan people.
The discussions also highlighted opportunities for expanding bilateral relations that would benefit both countries.
