Syria’s Election Committee on the Future of Assad Supporters in Upcoming Elections
Syria’s Supreme Election Committee has announced that Saturday will be a day of electoral silence, while also stating that those who supported the previous regime in any form will be barred from running or voting in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Kokcha News Agency: The Supreme Committee for Parliamentary Elections in Syria has declared that Saturday will be a day of electoral silence ahead of the elections scheduled for October 5. The number of candidates has reached 1,578, with 14% being women.
In an interview with Novosti, Hassan Al-Daghim, a member of the Supreme Election Committee, stated that anyone who supported or endorsed the previous regime in any form will be excluded from the nomination and voting process in the upcoming elections.
Al-Daghim also addressed the role of military and security institutions and their members in the electoral process, stating that all members of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior are ineligible to run as candidates.
He emphasized that the executive branch, particularly the Ministry of Interior, is tasked with ensuring the security of the electoral process.
