Passengers Evacuated from Leaking Boat in Global Sumud Fleet by Turkish Authorities
Passengers aboard the "Johnny M," a boat in the Global Sumud Fleet en route to Gaza with humanitarian aid, were evacuated by Turkish authorities after the vessel began taking on water and issued a distress call.

Kokcha News Agency: The “Johnny M,” part of the Global Sumud Fleet heading to Gaza with humanitarian aid, encountered technical difficulties early in the morning when it began taking on water. The distress call was made in an area between Crete, Cyprus, and Egypt.
The Turkish Red Crescent and other authorities swiftly coordinated the evacuation of the passengers, who hailed from countries such as Luxembourg, France, Finland, Mexico, and Malaysia.
In a statement posted on the Global Sumud Fleet’s Instagram account, the organization expressed gratitude to the Turkish government and the Turkish Red Crescent for their rapid coordination and on-the-ground support, which ensured the smooth execution of the evacuation.
The statement also noted that the fleet’s overall mission remains on track, with plans to reach Gaza within four days.
Evacuation Process:
The “Johnny M” experienced water leakage in its engine compartment, prompting a distress call.
Turkish authorities, led by the Turkish Red Crescent, coordinated the evacuation of 12 passengers, with four set to return home via Turkey.

The evacuation was carried out without significant delays to the fleet’s mission.
Global Sumud Fleet:
The fleet, consisting of dozens of ships, is carrying humanitarian aid, particularly medical supplies, to Gaza.

The term “Sumud,” meaning “steadfastness” or “unwavering determination,” has become a symbol of Palestinian resilience since the 1967 Six-Day War.
It represents the Palestinian people’s commitment to remain on their land, preserve their identity and culture, and resist occupation through non-violent civil disobedience.
