During a speech at an event in Beirut marking the month of Muharram, Naim Qassem stated, “Israel has no say in the matters we resolve among ourselves, nor can it oversee our agreements.” He accused Israel of continuing its aggressive stance in the region, particularly after the ceasefire, claiming that Israel has violated the ceasefire over 3,700 times.
Qassem also pushed back against international pressure for Hezbollah’s disarmament, saying, “We will not accept humiliation, we will not surrender our land, and we will not hand over our weapons to the enemy, Israel.”
Israel as a Global Threat
Qassem went further, describing Israel as a threat not only to Lebanon but to Christians, Jews, Americans, and the entire world. “Israel is a danger not only to us but to Christians, Jews, Americans, and the entire world,” he said.
On June 29, Qassem had previously stated that Hezbollah would not consider disarming as long as Israel continues its attacks on southern Lebanon.
US Proposal for Disarmament
The US Special Representative for Syria and former Ambassador to Ankara, Tom Barrack, presented a proposal to the Lebanese government on June 19, urging the collection of all weapons under state control as a priority.
During an interview with Al Arabiya on June 27, Barrack reiterated the US stance, saying, “Hezbollah’s military wing must be completely dismantled. Its political arm is acceptable, but its military structure is unacceptable. A timetable for disarmament should be set, for example, they should withdraw north of the Litani River.”
