Kokcha News Agency: The Global Resolve Fleet, en route to Gaza to challenge Israel’s blockade, has approached the 120 nautical mile boundary, according to updates shared on social media. The fleet, which includes dozens of ships carrying humanitarian aid, particularly medical supplies, is now entering a high-risk area where previous flotillas have been intercepted or attacked.
In a statement, the fleet’s organizers noted that “unidentified” vessels had approached some of the ships in the fleet, with some turning off their lights. “Participants implemented security protocols in preparation for potential intervention. The vessels have now left the fleet,” the statement read.
The fleet had earlier warned of increased drone activity and the possibility of various scenarios unfolding in the coming hours. “We are now in a high-risk zone,” the organizers stated, urging vigilance as they approached the area where previous flotillas had been targeted.
High Alert and Preparedness:
Wael Naouar, a spokesperson for the fleet, shared on social media that they had entered the high-risk zone six miles earlier, with 144 nautical miles remaining to Gaza. “The number of drones over our ships has doubled, and internet and radio broadcasts are being more heavily jammed than usual. Whether tonight or tomorrow, we are all ready for the moment of intervention,” Naouar said.
Turkish activist Muhammed Salih, aboard the Adagio ship in the fleet, reported spotting an Israeli Navy vessel 80 kilometers (50 miles) away. Salih stated, “We were expecting an Israeli intervention or attack tonight or tomorrow night. It will most likely happen tonight. We are on high alert. Everyone has put on their life jackets and is ready on deck.”
The Global Resolve Fleet:
The Global Resolve Fleet, consisting of dozens of ships, has been making its way towards Gaza for days. The fleet is carrying significant humanitarian aid, particularly medical supplies, and is the largest flotilla to set out for Gaza in recent years.
The term “Sumud,” meaning “resilience” or “steadfastness” in Arabic, became a concept among Palestinians after the Six-Day War in 1967. It symbolizes the Palestinian people’s determination to remain on their land, preserve their identity and culture, and resist occupation through non-violent civil disobedience and the construction of alternative institutions. In Palestine, the olive tree and a pregnant peasant woman are often used to depict this concept.
