Afghan Consulate Staff in Bonn Resign En Masse Over Germany’s Recognition of Taliban
The acting head and staff of the Afghan Consulate in Bonn, Germany, have resigned collectively in protest against the German government’s decision to accept Taliban representatives.
Kokcha News Agency: The acting head and staff of the Afghan Consulate in Bonn, Germany, have resigned en masse in response to the German government’s decision to recognize Taliban representatives. In a statement, they condemned the move as a violation of human rights, women’s education, and fundamental freedoms.
Hamed Nangialy Kabiri, the acting head of the consulate, stated in a video message that he and all staff members resigned in protest against Germany’s decision to send two Taliban diplomats to represent Afghanistan. Kabiri emphasized that the consulate had maintained its “independence” since the Taliban’s takeover and had not handed over any documents to the “illegitimate Taliban group.”
Kabiri announced that all consulate documents and assets would be handed over to the German Foreign Ministry. He also revealed that one of the Taliban diplomats is expected to take over the consulate.
The resigning staff warned that granting representation to the Taliban contradicts the principles of human rights, the right to education for women and children, and basic freedoms. They expressed hope that one day Afghanistan would see the establishment of a legitimate government based on the will of its people.
