Taliban Releases Forced Confession Video of Imprisoned Journalist Mehdi Ansari
The Taliban has released a video of imprisoned journalist Mehdi Ansari making a forced confession, raising concerns about press freedom and human rights in Afghanistan.

Kokcha News Agency – On Thursday, October 10, Taliban-affiliated social media pages released a video of journalist Mehdi Ansari making a forced confession. Ansari, who was arrested by Taliban intelligence in October last year, was sentenced to one and a half years in prison.
In the video, Ansari admits to being in contact with foreign media outlets and creating fake social media accounts to criticize the Taliban regime. He also retracts his previous statements about the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan. The exact date of the video’s recording is unclear, but it appears to have been taken early in his detention.
Prior to this, Amnesty International had called for Ansari’s immediate and unconditional release, stating that he had been subjected to mistreatment and torture in Taliban custody. The Taliban court sentenced him to prison without access to a lawyer or his family, accusing him of publishing anti-government content.
Since the Taliban’s return to power, the activities of journalists and media outlets in Afghanistan have been severely restricted, with many facing arrests, threats, and censorship.
