Saifuddin Tajikbayev Spotted in Panjshir, Raising Regional Security Concerns
Saifuddin Tajikbayev, a prominent Central Asian jihadist commander known for his role in the Syrian conflict, has reportedly been seen in Afghanistan’s Panjshir province, sparking fears of a resurgence in transnational militant networks.
Kokcha News Agency: Afghan sources have reported that Saifuddin Tajikbayev, a well-known Central Asian jihadist commander who was active in Syria for years, has recently been spotted in Panjshir province.
Tajikbayev, who played a significant role in the Syrian war against Bashar al-Assad’s regime, reportedly received a Syrian passport after the conflict ended and has since been transferred to Afghanistan through unofficial channels.
In recent weeks, a large number of Central Asian and Uyghur fighters have been relocated from Syria to Afghanistan, and it is believed that Tajikbayev is among them.
His potential presence in Panjshir, one of Afghanistan’s most strategically sensitive regions, has raised concerns about the revival of transnational jihadist networks in the north of the country and the expansion of Central Asian-linked militant groups.
Some security sources warn that these movements could be a prelude to the transfer of armed activities from Syria to Central Asia a development that would significantly alter the security balance of the entire region.
