77,000 Dead or Missing in Gaza After 735 Days of Israeli Attacks
During 735 days of relentless Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, 77,000 Palestinians have been killed or gone missing, according to a statement from the Gaza Government Media Office.
The Gaza Government Media Office released updated figures on the genocide carried out by Israel, which began in October 2023 and continued until a ceasefire was declared. The statement highlighted that over the past two years, Israel has committed some of the most horrific crimes against the 2.4 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, bombing everything in its path, whether living or inanimate.
The genocide, which saw water, food, and medicine used as weapons, resulted in the destruction of 90% of Gaza’s infrastructure. More than 80% of the Gaza Strip, which spans 365 square kilometers, has been seized and controlled by Israeli ground assaults and firepower.
Israel reportedly used over 200,000 tons of bombs during the attacks, and the so-called “safe zone” in the southern area of al-Mawasi was bombarded more than 150 times. The statement also noted that over 67,000 Palestinian bodies, including more than 20,000 children and 12,000 women, have been brought to hospitals. The total number of dead and missing in the Gaza Strip has reached 77,000.
The number of injured is close to 170,000, and 6,700 Palestinians remain detained in Israeli prisons, where they are subjected to torture. The genocide has targeted 39,000 Palestinian families, with thousands of families completely wiped out. Over 55% of the victims are women, children, and the elderly.
Sector-Specific Losses
The attacks have claimed the lives of 1,670 healthcare workers, 140 civil defense personnel, and 254 journalists. Over 1,000 civil defense workers have also been killed. Israel has carried out 788 attacks on hospitals and health centers, resulting in the bombing, destruction, or disabling of 38 hospitals and 96 health centers.
In the education sector, 95% of schools in Gaza have been damaged, with 670 schools directly hit, 165 schools and universities completely destroyed, and 392 partially destroyed. Over 13,500 students, 830 educators, and 193 academics and researchers have been killed.
Religious and cultural sites have also been targeted, with 835 mosques completely destroyed and dozens partially damaged. Three churches have been repeatedly targeted, and 40 out of 60 cemeteries have been destroyed, with 2,450 bodies stolen from graves. Seven mass graves have been discovered inside hospitals.
Nearly 300,000 homes have been completely destroyed, and 200,000 partially damaged, leaving 2 million people constantly displaced.
Economic and Humanitarian Impact
Israel’s closure of border crossings for over 600 days has prevented hundreds of thousands of vehicles from entering Gaza, leading to a severe famine that has claimed the lives of 460 people due to malnutrition. The genocide has caused an estimated $70 billion in material damage.
