Kokcha News Agency – Local sources from Yawan district in Badakhshan province have reported a violent clash between Pashtun and Tajik Taliban factions over control of a gold mine. According to these sources, Pashtun Taliban, primarily from Helmand and Kandahar provinces, opened fire on civilians and local residents.
A video shared by local sources shows a man accusing the Taliban of shooting at civilians. In the video, the man says, “Look how they are shooting at people,” as gunfire can be heard in the background.
The incident highlights the growing internal tensions within the Taliban, as different ethnic factions compete for control of resources. The Pashtun Taliban, who are reportedly from southern provinces, have been accused of using excessive force against local Tajik communities in Yawan.
This clash is part of a broader pattern of internal disputes within the Taliban, as various factions vie for power and resources in different regions of Afghanistan. The situation in Yawan remains tense, with local residents fearing further violence.
