Khalilzad Attends Mullah Baradar Meeting with Arab Businessman Regarding Afghan Gas Extraction
Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban's Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, met with Shaher Al-Taqi, CEO of Saudi Arabia's Delta International, on Friday, November 2nd. Images released by Baradar's office show former US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad also present at the official meeting.
Kokcha News Agency: The Taliban Deputy Prime Minister’s office announced in a statement that the two sides discussed the exploration, extraction, and development of gas pipelines in Afghanistan.
According to the statement, the CEO of Delta International expressed interest in investing in Afghanistan’s oil and gas sector and pledged to share the company’s experience with Afghan engineers.
Delta International, a Saudi oil and gas company based in Jeddah, has previously participated in major projects such as the Contract of the Century in Azerbaijan and the gas pipeline consortium in Turkmenistan.
Zalmay Khalilzad has been in Kabul since Wednesday, October 30th, holding “unofficial” meetings with Taliban officials.
He currently holds no official position in the US government but accompanied Adam Boehler, Donald Trump’s representative on hostage affairs, on two trips to Kabul.
