Israel Forcibly Demolishes Palestinian’s Home in Occupied East Jerusalem, Making Him Do It Himself

Israel forcibly forced a Palestinian citizen to demolish his own home in occupied East Jerusalem on the grounds that it was "unlicensed."

According to the Palestinian official agency WAFA, Israeli authorities issued a demolition order for the house of Tahir Derbas, a resident of the el-Isaviye district north of East Jerusalem, on the grounds that it was “unlicensed.”

The report stated that the Tel Aviv administration forcibly demolished the citizen’s home.

The report reminded that Israel forces Palestinians in East Jerusalem to demolish their houses with their own hands on the grounds that their houses are “unlicensed”, and pointed out that if Palestinian families do not comply with this, Israel not only demolishes the houses, but also fines the home owners.

The report also noted that the Jerusalem Municipality, affiliated to Israel, does not allow Palestinians to rebuild their homes on their lands in line with its attitude contrary to international law.

Israel Demolishes Palestinians’ Homes on the Grounds that They are “Unlicensed”

The Israeli army often demolishes Palestinian-owned structures in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem on the grounds that they are “unlicensed.”

While Israeli authorities prevent Palestinians from building and farming in the “C zone” of the occupied West Bank, it is stated that it is almost impossible for Palestinians to obtain a permit.

Within the framework of the “Second Oslo Agreement” signed between the Palestinian administration and Israel in 1995, the West Bank was divided into A, B and C regions.

While the administration of the “A region”, which covers 18 percent of the occupied West Bank, was administratively and securely transferred to Palestine, the administrative administration of the 21 percent “B region” was transferred to Palestine and “security” to Israel, the “administration and security” of the “C region”, which covers 61 percent, was left to Israel.

Since Israel launched its attack on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, there has been an increase in detentions, raids and attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
