Trump in Tokyo: Washington’s Message to China?

US President Donald Trump arrived in Tokyo on Monday for the second leg of his five-day trip to East Asia. This three-day trip begins as Washington seeks to strengthen its political and economic presence in the region and send a clear message to China about the US role in Asia through meetings with the Japanese Prime Minister and Emperor.

According to KOKCHANEWS on Monday, this trip is taking place amid regional trade and security tensions, and Trump’s meetings and programs could be a “political and economic message” to regional rivals, especially China, without explicitly taking a formal position.

The NHK news network, broadcasting images of Donald Trump’s arrival at the airport, reported: The US President arrived at Haneda Airport. The Japanese news network added: This is Trump’s first trip to Japan in his second term after 2019.

According to IRNA, Trump is scheduled to meet with Emperor Naruhito after arriving in Japan on Monday.

NHK, covering the event live, reported that the US President is flying over Tokyo by special presidential helicopter after arriving at the airport.

After this meeting, he will meet with newly appointed Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Tuesday (tomorrow), and on the same day, he will visit the Yokosuka base south of Tokyo.

According to IRNA, Trump yesterday, in the first leg of his five-day trip to East Asia, attended the signing ceremony of the peace agreement called “Kuala Lumpur Peace” between Thailand and Cambodia, which was held on the sidelines of the 47th meeting of the “Association of Southeast Asian Nations” (ASEAN) in Malaysia.

Trump’s three-day trip to Japan will be from Aban 5 to 7, 1404, equivalent to October 27 to 29, 2025, after which he will travel to South Korea to participate in the annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
