Russia’s Recognition of the Taliban: A Strategic Move Amid International Isolation
Russia’s decision to recognize the Taliban comes at a time when it faces international isolation due to its invasion of Ukraine. This move is seen as part of a broader strategy to counter Western influence and establish an alternative bloc.
🔹 1. Creating an Alternative Bloc Against the Western-Centric Order:
Russia is seeking to build closer ties with actors that are considered “unwanted” by the West, such as the Taliban, Iran, and North Korea. By doing so, Russia aims to form a coalition that is independent of Western-dominated international institutions. In this context, the Taliban, as the de facto power in Afghanistan, could become a key player in Russia’s regional calculations.
