Five Dead, Six Injured as Five-Story Building Collapses in Karachi, Pakistan

At least five people have died and six others were injured after a five-story building collapsed in the port city of Karachi, Pakistan, with rescue operations underway to save those trapped under the rubble.

The incident occurred around 10:10 AM local time (08:10 GMT) in Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city. Local police and rescue teams, along with residents, immediately launched a search and rescue operation to save those trapped under the debris.

Local police official Arif Aziz told AFP that five bodies have been recovered so far, and six people have been rescued with injuries. Aziz added that approximately 100 people were living in the building at the time of the collapse.

Saad Edhi, a worker with the Edhi Foundation, which is leading the rescue efforts, stated that there are still at least 8 to 10 people trapped under the rubble. Edhi described the building as “dilapidated” and confirmed that four people have died in the incident.

The cause of the collapse is still under investigation, but initial reports suggest that the building may have been in poor condition.
