In the early hours, intense rainfall in Texas’s Kerr County region caused the Guadalupe River to overflow, resulting in sudden and severe flooding. Sheriff Larry Leitha of Kerr County confirmed that at least 13 people have lost their lives in the floods, adding that search efforts are still ongoing for several individuals who remain unaccounted for. He also warned that the death toll could rise as the situation develops.
Sheriff Leitha emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that the rescue operations could take several days to complete. The flood warning has been extended in the area, and officials are cautious about potential additional fatalities.
Texas Deputy Governor Dan Patrick reported that 20 children attending a Christian summer camp in Hill County went missing amid the floods. He stated, “This does not necessarily mean they are lost; they could be stranded in trees or outside the access area.”
The disaster unfolded at Camp Mystic, where 14 helicopters, 12 drones, and around 500 emergency personnel are taking part in search and rescue efforts. Authorities are working tirelessly to locate the missing children and assist those affected by the flood.
