Kokche News Agency reports that, in an interview with Sky News, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Bagheri criticized the recent attacks by Israel and the United States, describing them as heinous assaults on Iran’s sovereignty and nuclear facilities.
He stated that although the US claims to have delayed Iran’s nuclear program by 1-2 years, the truth is different: Iran was subjected to unprovoked and sudden attacks in the past 12 days, resulting in dozens of martyrs, around a thousand deaths, and severe damage to nuclear sites, all under strict international safeguards.
Bagheri condemned these actions as blatant violations of international law, the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
He emphasized that these aggressive actions are a serious blow to diplomacy and international norms. Despite the setbacks, Bagheri insisted that diplomacy never truly ends, even in times of conflict.
He highlighted Iran’s ongoing diplomatic efforts, including talks in Muscat and consultations with European officials, stating that Iran remains committed to dialogue and cooperation with its partners.
He criticized the current atmosphere of outrage among the Iranian public, saying that the nation is still mourning loved ones lost in recent attacks and that public anger is preventing any discourse on negotiations at the moment. “The people are in shock and anger. We are still holding funerals for those who fell in these 12 days of fighting. Everyone is reflecting on what has happened, and no one dares to speak of negotiations or diplomacy now,” he said.
Regarding reports of indirect talks between Washington and Tehran, Bagheri acknowledged the ongoing contacts through Oman, Qatar, and other countries, asserting, “Diplomacy never really ends. We are watching closely. We must be prepared for the next round of negotiations and ensure that sudden attacks, like those on June 13, do not happen again.”
