Ferry Collision Causes Ship to Sink in Split, Croatia Due to Storm and Heavy Rain

A ship sank in Split, Croatia, after being hit by a ferry during a storm and heavy rainfall, according to the Split Port Authority.

Kokcha News Agency: In the coastal city of Split, Croatia, a ship sank after being struck by a ferry during a storm and heavy rainfall. The Split Port Authority reported that the ferry lost control due to the severe weather, which has been affecting the country, and collided with a catamaran and a tourist cruise ship waiting in the harbor.

As a result of the accident, the tourist cruise ship sank. The Port Authority confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries, but material damage occurred.

Zvonimir Perkusic from the Port Authority explained to national media that the ferry’s mooring line broke due to the strong storm, causing it to drift and hit two ships, one of which sank.

National media also reported that the storm caused damage to the roof of a stadium in Split and uprooted numerous trees. Residents of Split were said to have panicked due to the adverse weather conditions.

The Croatian Meteorological Administration had previously issued warnings of strong winds and heavy rainfall following a heatwave.

Meanwhile, in Serbia, an orange alert was issued due to the impact of heavy rain and strong winds. The Serbian Meteorological Administration announced the alert after the severe weather began last evening, following a heatwave. The Ministry of Internal Affairs also warned citizens about the changing weather conditions.

Yesterday, two people were injured in Serbia due to the severe weather.
