Kokcha News Agency: During a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Germany’s representative to the UN, Antje Leendertse, revealed that Germany has contributed over $1 billion in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan since the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021.
Speaking on Monday, July 16, Leendertse stated that the funds have been allocated to humanitarian assistance and meeting the needs of the Afghan people. She emphasized Germany’s commitment to supporting the Afghan population and its backing of efforts by UNAMA (United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan) and other international organizations to improve the lives of Afghans.
Leendertse also noted that Germany, like many other countries, believes there is no alternative to engaging with the Taliban and will continue to actively participate in the Doha process under the auspices of the United Nations.
