Houthis Release Footage of Attack on “Magic Seas” Ship in Red Sea
Yemen’s Houthi rebels have released footage of their attack on the commercial vessel "Magic Seas" in the Red Sea, claiming the ship ignored warnings before being targeted by unmanned sea drones and ballistic missiles.
Kokcha News Agency: The Houthi rebels in Yemen have shared video footage of their attack on the “Magic Seas” ship in the Red Sea, alleging that the vessel’s crew ignored repeated warnings before the assault. The video, published on Houthi social media platforms, shows the ship being targeted by unmanned sea drones and armed fighters before it ultimately sank in the Red Sea.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree had previously announced that the “Magic Seas” was attacked using two unmanned sea drones, three unmanned aerial vehicles, and five ballistic missiles. Saree claimed that the crew was allowed to abandon the ship before the attack, which he said was carried out after multiple warnings were ignored.
“The attack occurred after numerous warnings and calls were made to the ship. The crew rejected all of these warnings,” Saree stated. He added that the “Magic Seas” was targeted because it was using Israeli ports, in line with the Houthis’ broader campaign against ships linked to Israel.
Crew Rescued by UAE
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) later announced that it had rescued the crew of the “Magic Seas” following the attack. The ship’s crew was reportedly evacuated safely and provided with medical assistance.
Background on Houthi Maritime Attacks
The Houthis have been targeting commercial ships in the Red Sea since October 31, 2023, in what they claim is a response to Israel’s military actions in Gaza. The group has focused on vessels they allege are linked to Israeli companies, disrupting maritime trade in the region.
The Red Sea is a critical shipping route for global trade, and the Houthi attacks have raised concerns about the security of maritime operations in the area.
