Investigation Launched Against Former CIA Director Brennan and Former FBI Director Comey in the U.S.

The U.S. Department of Justice has launched an investigation into former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey over allegations of "abuse of authority," following claims of misconduct during the 2016 election interference probe.

Kokcha News Agency: The U.S. Department of Justice has initiated an investigation into former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey, based on allegations of “abuse of authority.” According to Fox News, citing sources within the Justice Department, current CIA Director John Ratcliffe presented evidence to the FBI suggesting that Brennan had misused his position.

Unnamed sources revealed that the FBI subsequently launched an investigation into Brennan. A separate investigation was also opened into Comey, focusing on claims that both former directors provided false information to Congress during the probe into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, which was said to have favored Donald Trump.

The FBI reportedly views the communication between Brennan and Comey as part of a “conspiracy,” though further details were not disclosed.

Background on the 2016 Election Probe
The CIA recently concluded that the 2016 intelligence report on Russian interference, which claimed that the Russian government sought to influence the election in Trump’s favor, was “rushed.” This report, released in 2017, led to the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller to investigate Trump’s campaign activities.

After a 2.5-year investigation, Mueller’s probe did not find sufficient evidence to charge Trump with any wrongdoing, and the case was closed.

Claims of “Conspiracy”
The investigations into Brennan and Comey are part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to scrutinize the actions of senior intelligence officials during the 2016 election interference probe. Critics argue that the investigations are politically motivated, while supporters claim they are necessary to ensure accountability.
