World Population Day: How many people live in the most populous country?
On July 11, annually marked as World Population Day by the United Nations, the global population is reported to have reached 8.2 billion in 2025. The day focuses on raising awareness about population issues and empowering youth for a fairer, hopeful future.

Kokcha News Agency reports that the world’s population hit approximately 8,200,000,000 in 2025, prompting the United Nations to observe July 11 as World Population Day. This year’s theme emphasizes “Empowering youth to build families in a fair and hopeful world,” urging governments and societies to support young people in making reproductive choices and fostering sustainable growth.
In 2024, India remains the most populous country, with an estimated 1.45 billion people, according to UN population projections. It is followed closely by China, with around 1.42 billion residents. On the streets of India’s cities and towns, scenes of a densely packed population are visible, reflecting the ongoing demographic dynamics shaping global development.
The celebration underscores the importance of addressing challenges related to population growth, urbanization, resource distribution, and youth empowerment. As the world’s population continues to grow, sustainable development remains an urgent priority for global leaders.
