Ceasefire Talks in Gaza Hit a Snag as Israel Prepares New Withdrawal Map
Ceasefire negotiations in Gaza have stalled due to disagreements over Israel’s proposed withdrawal map, with mediators working to bridge the gap between the parties despite the impasse.
Kokcha News Agency: Hope for a ceasefire in Gaza has once again diminished as negotiations in Doha remain deadlocked. According to Israeli media, one of the main sticking points is Israel’s insistence on maintaining a 3-kilometer-wide occupation zone in parts of Gaza, as outlined in its latest withdrawal map.
Reports indicate that the red lines of Israel and Hamas do not align, and Israel is expected to present a new withdrawal map in the coming days. The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that mediators are not giving up despite the disagreements and are working to balance Hamas’s rejection of Israel’s current map with the Israeli government’s struggle to reach a consensus with its hawkish factions.
U.S. Unhappy with Israel’s Proposal
The U.S. has reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with Israel’s proposed map and has communicated this to Qatari and Egyptian mediators. Meanwhile, Israeli state television KAN suggested that a potential agreement could lead to internal conflict within the Israeli government.
Netanyahu Tries to Soften Far-Right Opposition
Sources close to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have speculated that far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir could resign if a ceasefire deal is signed. Netanyahu is reportedly trying to soften the opposition of Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to the agreement.
Trump’s Ceasefire Proposal
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Israel has accepted the necessary conditions for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza. The proposal was presented to Hamas by Qatari and Egyptian mediators, and Hamas has reportedly responded positively, expressing readiness to negotiate the implementation of the ceasefire.
Israel’s Plan to Displace Gazans
Despite the ongoing negotiations, Israel has not abandoned its plan to displace Gazans, with the first phase aiming to relocate them to a camp in Rafah. Human rights organizations have condemned the plan as a crime against humanity.
