Israeli Foreign Minister Claims EU Won’t Impose Sanctions Despite Human Rights Violations in Palestine
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar claims the European Union (EU) will not impose sanctions on Tel Aviv despite allegedly determining that Israel is violating human rights in occupied Palestinian territories.
Kokcha News Agency – Speaking to the press before an EU-Southern Neighborhood Ministerial Meeting, Saar commented on potential decisions from the upcoming EU Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting. Regarding the possibility of the EU imposing sanctions on Israel, Saar said, “(Sanctions) none of these will be accepted by EU member states. There is no justification. It hasn’t been accepted so far, and I believe it won’t be accepted tomorrow.”
Saar accused a journalist of “exaggerating” when asked about the killing of Palestinians waiting for aid at distribution centers. Saar claimed that the Gaza Humanitarian Aid Foundation (GHF) was trying to prevent Hamas from controlling aid distribution.
Despite reports and confessions from Israeli soldiers who likened shooting at Palestinians to a game, Saar denied that the Israeli army killed Palestinians waiting for aid and claimed that Hamas was targeting civilians. Responding to a question about meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Esad Hasan Sheybani, Saar said they were pleased with the Syrian minister’s participation, stating, “We will be together in the same meeting. We will see what happens.”
Since May 27, 2025, Israel has been carrying out aid distribution through the U.S.-Israeli-guided “Gaza Humanitarian Aid Foundation,” bypassing the UN and international aid organizations. However, this entity is not recognized by the UN and is rejected by Palestinian groups, with Hamas calling the system “death traps.”
Israel has kept all land border crossings into the Gaza Strip closed since March 2, 2025. While the passage of hundreds of aid trucks into Gaza is blocked, only a limited number of vehicles are allowed to pass through the Kerem Shalom crossing.
Gaza needs at least 500 aid trucks daily. The ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza since October 7, 2023, have resulted in a major humanitarian disaster due to intense bombardment, starvation, forced displacement, and infrastructure destruction.
Despite calls for a ceasefire from the international community and the International Court of Justice, Israel’s genocide continues unabated.
