Kokcha News Agency– The U.S. and China are locked in an escalating intelligence war amid their ongoing technological rivalry. Last week, the FBI arrested Chinese hacker Xu Zewei in Milan, Italy, accusing him of stealing sensitive COVID-19 vaccine research. FBI Director Kash Patel labeled the operation as “hunting the Chinese Communist Party,” vowing to respond to attacks on U.S. institutions.
Meanwhile, China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) announced it had thwarted three foreign espionage attempts, warning officials of increasing infiltration efforts by foreign agents. In one case, a Chinese official was allegedly blackmailed into leaking classified documents.
Experts note that espionage activities have reached new heights, with both nations targeting each other’s citizens and officials.
The U.S. has tightened surveillance on Chinese students and researchers, while China has increased its operations against U.S. citizens and businesses. Despite eased restrictions on technology exports to China, experts believe espionage will continue unabated.
Recent incidents include the arrest of two Chinese nationals for attempting to leak U.S. Navy secrets and the detention of three Chinese researchers for smuggling biological materials. China also reported the arrest of a couple accused of spying for the UK.
