Vancouver International Airport Briefly Paralyzed by Plane Hijacking Scare
A hijacking report of a small aircraft led to temporary flight disruptions at one of Canada's busiest airports, causing a brief shutdown at Vancouver International Airport.

Kokcha News Agency reports: Canadian federal police received a report of a small plane hijacking, leading to brief flight disruptions at one of the country’s busiest airports. According to officials, Vancouver International Airport was particularly affected, being paralyzed for about an hour due to the hijacking alert.
Police stated they received a message at 1:10 PM local time about a single-engine, four-seater Cessna 172 that was “hijacked in the Vancouver Island area and approaching the airspace near Vancouver International Airport (west).” The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said in a statement, “The suspect was the sole occupant of the aircraft.”
Law enforcement officials announced that after the Cessna landed about an hour later, the suspect was arrested “without resistance and without incident.” According to the airport’s statement, nine incoming flights were diverted to other airports, and the landing took 39 minutes.
The swift response by authorities and the peaceful resolution of the incident demonstrated the effectiveness of emergency protocols at major airports. While the event caused temporary inconvenience to travelers, it underscored the importance of vigilance and rapid response in aviation security.
