US Engages in Efforts to De-escalate Tensions in Syria

US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce has confirmed that the United States is involved in efforts to calm tensions in Syria, calling for meaningful dialogue to achieve a lasting ceasefire.

Kokcha News Agency: US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated on Thursday that the United States is engaged in efforts to de-escalate tensions in Syria. Speaking to journalists, Bruce emphasized the need for all parties to engage in meaningful dialogue to achieve a lasting ceasefire in Syria.

Bruce clarified that the US “did not support Israel’s recent move in Syria” and confirmed that Washington is in communication with both sides. She urged the Syrian government to “call for de-escalation and work towards stability.”

Bruce also condemned the violence in Syria, stressing that “peace between Syria and Israel is essential.”

The US reiterated on Thursday that there has been no change in its policy towards Syria, despite the recent surge in violence in Suwayda province. A US State Department official told Reuters, “There is no change in US policy towards Syria.”

The official called on “all Syrian parties to step back and engage in dialogue for a permanent ceasefire” and urged the Syrian authorities to “investigate all reports of violations and hold perpetrators accountable.”

The official also strongly condemned the violence in Suwayda province.

The White House highlighted the US role in containing the escalation in Syria, stating that it is “ongoing.” This comes after clashes in southern Syria resulted in over 600 deaths in just a few days, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt stated that “as soon as the US intervened in the conflict, we were able to contain the escalation.” She noted that the Syrian authorities agreed to “withdraw their forces from the areas where the confrontations were taking place,” and that Washington continues to “monitor the situation intensively.”

The US is actively working to de-escalate tensions in Syria, calling for dialogue and a lasting ceasefire, while condemning the recent violence and urging accountability for violations.
