Europe’s Eastern Flank Plans “Drone Wall” to Counter Rising Security Threats

In response to the changing dynamics of warfare post-Ukraine conflict, Eastern European countries are considering the construction of a "drone wall" along their borders to defend against potential drone attacks, with Lithuania leading the initiative.

Kokcha News Agency: As drone technology evolves rapidly in the wake of the Ukraine war, Eastern European nations are under pressure to bolster their border defenses.

Lithuania’s former Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius has proposed the construction of a “drone wall” along the border with Russia, in collaboration with neighboring countries. Kubilius emphasized that merely producing or stockpiling drones is insufficient; trained personnel and rapid production capabilities are essential for such a project.

The Ukraine conflict has fundamentally altered the role of drones in modern warfare, making their effective use a necessity for armies. Drone threats can now come from air, land, or sea, forcing European countries to rethink their security strategies.

Lithuania’s Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite had previously announced plans for a “drone wall” along the Belarus border, in coordination with Latvia and Estonia, to prevent potential provocations from hostile nations.

Kubilius stressed that such projects require not only hardware but also robust production infrastructure and skilled personnel, urging NATO to support Eastern flank countries in these areas.
