Taliban diplomats take control of Afghan embassy in Germany
For the First Time Since Taliban Takeover, Two Diplomats Appointed by the Group Officially Take Charge of Afghanistan’s Embassy in Germany
Kokcha News Agency: In a significant development, two diplomats appointed by the Taliban have officially taken charge of Afghanistan’s embassy in Germany, marking the first such move since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021.
Reliable sources confirmed on Sunday, July 29, that the German government has accepted these individuals and entrusted them with the responsibility of managing Afghanistan’s diplomatic missions in Berlin and Bonn.
German officials emphasized that this move does not signify formal recognition of the Taliban government but is rather a step to maintain minimal technical and administrative interactions with Afghanistan.
Friedrich Merz, the Prime Minister of Germany, recently stated that engagement with the Taliban will remain at a technical level, with the aim of addressing administrative and humanitarian issues.
This development comes as the Taliban continues to seek international recognition and legitimacy, despite widespread concerns over human rights violations and the lack of an inclusive government in Afghanistan.
