Body of 17-Year-Old Afghan Girl Found in Manisa, Turkey

The body of a 17-year-old Afghan girl was discovered in her home in Manisa, Turkey, prompting an ongoing investigation into her death. This marks the second case of an Afghan woman found dead in Turkey within a week, raising concerns over violence against migrant women.

Kokcha News Agency: Turkish media outlets, including Sözcü, reported on Saturday, July 19, that the body of a 17-year-old Afghan girl, identified only by the initials H.A., was found in her home in the Cumhuriyet neighborhood of Manisa, a city in western Turkey.

Family members and relatives of H.A. became concerned after losing contact with her for several hours. Upon visiting her home, they discovered her motionless and covered with a blanket, prompting them to alert the authorities.

Following an initial investigation by the prosecutor’s office, H.A.’s body was transferred to the state hospital morgue for a forensic examination to determine the exact cause of death.

According to Turkish police, neighbors reported that H.A. had an argument with her husband the night before her death. Her husband has been named the primary suspect, and police are currently conducting operations to apprehend him.

This incident is the second case of an Afghan woman found dead in Turkey in just one week. Earlier, the body of a 29-year-old Afghan woman was discovered in Eskişehir with multiple stab wounds. In that case, the victim’s ex-husband was arrested.

The rising cases of violence against migrant women, particularly Afghan women, in Turkey are raising serious concerns among refugee communities and human rights organizations. The lack of adequate legal and social protection for vulnerable women is believed to be a major factor contributing to such violence.
