Ukrainian Mirage 2000 Fighter Jet Crashes Due to Equipment Malfunction
A French-donated Mirage 2000 fighter jet crashed in Ukraine due to equipment malfunction, according to the Ukrainian military, as Russia and Ukraine prepare for their third round of talks in Istanbul.
Kokcha News Agency: The Ukrainian military has reported that a Mirage 2000 fighter jet, donated by France to support Ukraine’s fight against Russia, crashed on July 22 due to an equipment malfunction. The pilot safely ejected from the aircraft and was rescued by emergency teams.
The incident occurred in the Volyn region, marking the first loss of a Mirage jet by the Ukrainian military. The Ukrainian military stated that the pilot acted competently during the crisis, successfully ejecting from the aircraft. “There was an equipment malfunction, and the pilot reported it to the flight controller. The pilot acted as expected in crisis situations and successfully ejected.
The rescue team found the pilot in stable condition. There were no casualties on the ground,” the statement read.
France delivered the first batch of Mirage jets to Ukraine in February as part of its military support for Kyiv’s efforts against Russian aggression.
The crash comes as Russian and Ukrainian delegations prepare to meet in Istanbul for their third round of negotiations, which are expected to focus on ceasefire agreements, prisoner exchanges, and other critical issues.
