Turkey, Arab League, and OIC Strongly Condemn Israeli Parliament’s Move to Impose Sovereignty in Occupied West Bank

Turkey, along with nine other countries, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has strongly condemned the Israeli Parliament’s approval of a declaration imposing so-called “Israeli sovereignty” in the occupied West Bank.
Kokcha News Agency – Turkey, alongside Bahrain, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Nigeria, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the Arab League and the OIC, has issued a joint statement condemning the Israeli Parliament’s decision to approve a declaration asserting Israeli sovereignty in the occupied West Bank.
The statement, released by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the move as a “clear and unacceptable violation of international law” and a breach of relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, particularly resolutions 242 (1967), 338 (1973), and 2334 (2016), which affirm the invalidity of all measures and decisions aimed at legitimizing the occupation, including settlement activities in Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.
The joint declaration emphasized that Israel’s unilateral action has no legal effect and cannot alter the legal status of the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, which is an integral part of the Palestinian lands under occupation.
“The signatories reaffirm that Israel has no sovereignty whatsoever over the occupied Palestinian territories,” the statement read. It also highlighted that such actions by Israel only exacerbate regional tensions, particularly in light of Israel’s ongoing assault on the Gaza Strip and the resulting humanitarian catastrophe.
The statement called on the international community, including the UN Security Council and all relevant actors, to “fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities and take action to stop Israel’s illegal policies, which aim to impose a fait accompli by force and undermine the prospects for a just and lasting peace based on a two-state solution.”
The signatories also reaffirmed their commitment to a two-state solution based on international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative, envisioning an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, within the June 4, 1967 borders.
