CSTO Holds Emergency Meeting to Address Threats from Afghanistan

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) convened an emergency meeting to discuss measures to enhance security along the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border, amid growing concerns over instability and extremist activities in Afghanistan.

The Secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) held a special meeting on Friday to explore ways to strengthen security along the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border. The meeting, attended by representatives from member states and officials of the organization, took place at the CSTO headquarters in Moscow.

Valery Semerikov, the acting Secretary-General of the CSTO, emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in addressing potential threats emanating from Afghan soil. Tajikistan, which is coordinating the initiative, presented a report on the progress of the first phase of the border security enhancement plan.

During the meeting, a list of necessary weapons, military equipment, and technical means for border protection was finalized based on the capacities of member states. This comes as Central Asian countries, particularly Tajikistan, have expressed growing concerns over the spread of insecurity and the activities of extremist groups in Afghanistan.

The CSTO aims to provide a coordinated response to these threats through military and technical cooperation among its members.
