Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, reiterated her country’s strong opposition to the use of starvation as a weapon in the Hamas-Israel conflict during a UN Security Council meeting.
She called on the international community to take urgent steps to end the blockade of Gaza and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.
Sheikha Alya described the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza as “beyond description,” highlighting widespread famine, collapsed infrastructure, disease outbreaks, and the deaths of over 58,000 people, including approximately 18,000 children, in Palestine.
In another part of her speech, she emphasized Qatar’s commitment to mediation efforts in support of Afghanistan, stating that Qatar will continue to host the “Doha Process for Afghanistan” under UN supervision to fully integrate the country into the global community.
