Pakistan’s Role in ISIS-Khorasan Activities and Alleged Intelligence Support
Regional sources and analysts claim that ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K) organizes its propaganda and social activities primarily from Pakistani soil, allegedly with covert support from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
According to a report by Khorasan Urdu, ISIS-Khorasan, also known as ISIS-Khawarej, has established its propaganda and operational bases in Pakistan. The report suggests that the group not only operates its media and social campaigns from Pakistani territory but also benefits from the support of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Recent heavy clashes in Mastung, Balochistan, resulted in significant losses for ISIS-K, dealing a severe blow to its operational capacity within Pakistan. In response to these losses, ISIS-K’s backers in Pakistan, particularly certain intelligence circles, have launched a large-scale recruitment campaign. This includes targeted media activities, online propaganda, and even financial incentives to attract new members.
Analysts believe this is part of a complex security strategy aimed at exploiting extremist groups to suppress or control ethnic minorities such as the Pashtuns and Baloch, as well as to destabilize Afghanistan.
The report raises serious questions about the dual role of Pakistan’s security institutions in regional extremism. This role not only undermines Pakistan’s internal security but also poses significant challenges to regional stability.
