Aid Ship Handala Passes Point Where Madleen Was Intercepted, Heads Toward Gaza

The Handala ship, which set sail from Italy on July 20 with 21 activists as part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, has passed the point where the Madleen ship was previously intercepted by Israeli forces. The Handala is now less than 180 kilometers away from Gaza, according to Emma Fourreau, a French Member of the European Parliament on board the ship.

In a social media post, Fourreau stated, “We just passed the point where the Madleen was intercepted. We have one last night, and we will be there. Today, more than ever, we need your mobilization. Your eyes are our protection.”

Israel Threatens Intervention:
According to Israel’s Yedioth Ahronot newspaper, unnamed Israeli officials have warned that if the Handala does not change its course and continues toward Gaza, it will be intercepted by the Shayetet 13 naval commando unit and diverted to the port of Ashdod.

The International Committee for Breaking the Siege of Gaza, in a social media post, reported that an Israeli drone has been spotted flying over the Handala ship as it heads toward Gaza. The committee also stated that if Israel seizes the Handala, the activists on board will begin an indefinite hunger strike.
