The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has responded to allegations that Iranian hackers targeted close associates of President Donald Trump, threatening to leak stolen emails. The U.S. has condemned the alleged cyberattack as a "smear campaign" and vowed to hold those responsible accountable.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has reacted strongly to claims that an Iran-linked hacker group has threatened to leak stolen emails from close associates of President Donald Trump. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), a division of DHS, issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter), addressing the allegations reported by Reuters.
In the statement, CISA described the incident as an attempt by a “foreign adversary” to illegally misuse allegedly stolen and unverified materials. The agency stated, “This so-called cyberattack is nothing more than digital propaganda, and the targets cannot be coincidental.”
Smear Campaign Against Trump and Allies
CISA emphasized that the alleged cyberattack is part of a “smear campaign” targeting Trump and his associates. The statement warned that those responsible will be “found, prosecuted, and similar incidents will not be tolerated.”

According to Reuters, the Iran-linked hackers claimed to have stolen emails from key figures in Trump’s inner circle, including Susie Wiles, the White House Special Assistant. The hackers reportedly threatened to release the stolen emails, raising concerns about the potential impact on Trump’s administration and the upcoming elections.
