Turkey Arrests 168 Suspects for Alleged Arson as Wildfires Intensify

As temperatures rise and wildfires spread across Turkey, authorities have announced the arrest of 168 individuals since the beginning of June on suspicion of intentionally setting forest fires.

Kokcha News Agency: Turkish Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç revealed on Wednesday, July 30, that 168 people have been arrested since June on charges of deliberately starting forest fires. In recent days alone, 39 additional suspects have been detained, and court rulings have been issued for 64 of the accused.

Turkish media reports indicate that several regions, including the cities of Bursa and Karabük, have experienced severe wildfires in recent days. The fires have caused significant damage to forests and prompted widespread concern over the safety and environmental impact.

The Turkish government has been actively working to combat the wildfires, with firefighting teams deployed to affected areas. Authorities are also investigating the causes of the fires, with a focus on identifying and prosecuting those responsible for arson.
