Which Countries Recognize Palestine? A Story of Resistance and Hope

Following announcements by the UK and France to recognize Palestine, hopes for a two-state solution continue to grow. With 147 UN member states already recognizing Palestine, key Western countries are now joining the movement, signaling a potential shift in international support for Palestinian statehood.

Kokcha News Agency: The Palestinian people, enduring a brutal genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, have seen a glimmer of hope as more countries move to recognize their state. To date, 147 UN member states have recognized Palestine as an independent state, and this number is expected to rise with recent announcements from France, the UK, Canada, and Malta.

In a significant development, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France will recognize Palestine during the upcoming UN General Assembly in September. Similarly, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the UK will recognize Palestine if Israel fails to agree to a ceasefire in Gaza.

Canada and Malta have also joined the growing list of countries supporting Palestinian statehood, with both nations planning to formally recognize Palestine at the September UN General Assembly. This Western support is seen as a crucial step toward strengthening Palestine’s position on the international stage.

In addition to these countries, Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, the Bahamas, Ireland, Norway, Spain, Slovenia, Armenia, and Mexico have also recognized Palestine since October 7, 2023. These moves have been hailed as a significant victory for Palestine in its struggle for international recognition.

International Solidarity for Palestine:
The “New York Call,” a declaration signed by 15 countries at the UN General Assembly, has urged other nations to recognize Palestine and push for a two-state solution. Countries like Spain, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, and Slovenia, which already recognize Palestine, are leading this effort.

As of today, 147 out of 193 UN member states recognize Palestine as an independent state. With France, the UK, Canada, and Malta expected to formalize their recognition, this number is likely to reach 150 soon.

Turkey’s Longstanding Support for Palestine:
Turkey has been a steadfast supporter of Palestine since its declaration of independence. Just hours after Palestine declared independence on November 15, 1988, Turkey was among the first countries to recognize it. Since then, Turkey has consistently supported Palestine’s struggle for statehood and remains a key ally in the international arena.

Portugal’s Hopeful Step:
Portugal is also considering recognizing Palestine, with its government pledging to work with other nations to support Palestinian statehood at the UN General Assembly. This move could further bolster international solidarity for Palestine.

The Future of Palestine: Ending the Occupation:
Palestine’s lands were under Ottoman rule for 400 years until the British occupation in 1917. The 1947 UN partition plan divided the land between Israel and Palestine, but the 1967 Israeli occupation has persisted to this day. International recognition of Palestine is seen as a crucial step toward ending this occupation and achieving a two-state solution. 📱 Follow us on Telegram: https://t.me/kokchanews
