Israel’s Chief of Staff Cancels Washington Visit Due to Lack of Progress on Gaza Ceasefire

Israel’s Chief of Staff, General Eyal Zamir, has canceled his planned visit to Washington on Tuesday, citing the failure to reach a permanent ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

Kokcha News Agency reports that Israel’s Chief of Staff, General Eyal Zamir, has canceled his scheduled visit to Washington due to the lack of progress in achieving a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

According to The Jerusalem Post, which cited Israeli sources, Zamir had linked his visit to progress on a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, but no such progress was made.

The decision to cancel the visit comes after ceasefire talks in Qatar reached a deadlock and public pressure over the issue of prisoners intensified. It is reported that Zamir’s decision underscores that “moral and operational responsibilities take precedence even over high-level diplomatic engagements.”

The Israeli military has not yet issued an official statement on the matter. Zamir was expected to attend the farewell ceremony for General Michael Erik Kurilla, the outgoing commander of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) in Florida, during his visit.

The cancellation coincides with a period of growing disagreement between Israel’s political and military leadership over the management of the war and the handling of the prisoner issue in Gaza, which has been widely reported in the media.
