Kokcha News Agency – The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza continues to deepen as Israel prepares to expand its military offensive. Israeli media reports that a phased attack plan, approved by Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, is expected to be presented to the government soon.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s ongoing attacks have led to increasing destruction and loss of life in Gaza. This week, the Israeli cabinet is reportedly set to decide on whether to escalate the offensive or continue ceasefire negotiations.
According to Channel 12, the security cabinet is considering intensifying the attacks, even at the risk of endangering the lives of hostages. Meanwhile, disagreements within the cabinet persist, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz yet to take a clear stance on whether to expand the offensive or pursue negotiations.
Channel 13 reported that Chief of Staff Zamir has privately expressed concerns that escalating the attacks could endanger the lives of hostages. Zamir is said to have stated that he would not authorize such an operation without explicit instructions from political authorities.
“Preparations Underway”
Haaretz newspaper claimed that the Israeli military is preparing to expand its offensive in the Gaza Strip, which has already been pushed into a humanitarian disaster. The report suggests that the “phased attack plan,” expected to be approved by Zamir tonight, would target “sensitive areas,” including refugee camps where displaced Palestinians have sought shelter.
Ceasefire Talks Stalled
Hamas reportedly submitted its response to a ceasefire and prisoner exchange proposal on July 24, mediated by international negotiators. However, US President Donald Trump’s Middle East Envoy, Steve Witkoff, accused Hamas of being “unwilling” to agree to a ceasefire and recalled his team from Doha, Qatar, for consultations.
