Gaza in Ruins: Over 60,000 Killed as Israel Escalates Offensive
Since October 2023, Gaza has been plunged into a humanitarian catastrophe, with over 60,000 lives lost and widespread destruction as Israel continues its relentless military campaign.
Kokcha News Agency – Gaza has become a bloodbath as Israel’s military offensive, which began in October 2023, has claimed the lives of at least 60,000 people. The region, already under siege, has been subjected to relentless bombing, with hospitals, schools, and refugee camps targeted.
The conflict erupted after Hamas launched an attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, prompting a devastating response from Israeli forces. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government declared northern Gaza a “war zone,” forcing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to flee south. The displacement led to overcrowded shelters and a severe humanitarian crisis.
Israeli airstrikes have dropped over 12,000 tons of explosives on Gaza, a force comparable to the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima during World War II. Hospitals, including the historic Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, have been bombed, with the Gaza Health Ministry reporting nearly 500 deaths in one such attack.
Despite international calls for a ceasefire, Israel has continued its ground and air operations, targeting refugee camps and civilian infrastructure. In February 2024, Israeli forces opened fire on a crowd waiting for aid, killing 115 people.
Efforts for peace have repeatedly failed. A temporary ceasefire in November 2023 allowed for a hostage exchange, but hostilities resumed soon after. By March 2025, Israel had expanded its control over Gaza, cutting off aid and plunging the region into famine.
US President Donald Trump’s announcement in 2025 that the US would “take over” Gaza and provide economic development sparked global outrage. However, with no lasting ceasefire in sight, Gaza remains in a state of perpetual crisis.
