Kremlin Urges Caution on Nuclear Rhetoric Amid Tensions with US

Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized the need for caution regarding nuclear rhetoric, following US President Donald Trump’s comments on deploying nuclear submarines in response to Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev’s statements.

Kokcha News Agency – Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov addressed the media in Moscow, urging all parties to exercise extreme caution when discussing nuclear issues. Peskov’s remarks came in response to US President Donald Trump’s recent comments about the deployment of two nuclear submarines, which he described as being positioned “where they need to be” following Medvedev’s nuclear-related statements.

“American submarines are already on combat duty. This is an ongoing process,” Peskov stated. He added, “We do not wish to engage in such discussions or comment on them. We respond carefully to statements related to nuclear issues. Russia acts responsibly in this regard, and President Putin’s position on this matter is well-known. Russia attaches great importance to the prevention of nuclear proliferation. We believe everyone should be very cautious with nuclear rhetoric.”

Peskov also stressed that there can be no winners in a nuclear war, stating, “There is no nuclear escalation. Difficult and sensitive issues are being discussed, and many are reacting emotionally to these topics.”

Open to Dialogue with the US:
Peskov did not rule out the possibility of a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff, who is expected to visit Russia. “We do not dismiss such a meeting. We would always be happy to host Witkoff in Moscow and continue our contacts. We believe that interactions with Witkoff are important, comprehensive, and beneficial,” he said.

The Kremlin spokesperson also reiterated Russia’s commitment to resolving the Ukraine crisis through political and diplomatic means. “The US is continuing its mediation efforts in the Ukraine crisis. These efforts are very important, especially in the context of ongoing direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Work is ongoing, and we remain committed to the idea of resolving the crisis through political and diplomatic tools,” Peskov said.

Regarding a potential meeting between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Peskov noted, “No preparations for such a meeting have been made. However, Putin does not rule out such a meeting once the necessary groundwork has been laid and certain progress has been achieved at the expert level.”
