US President Donald Trump has announced plans to significantly increase tariffs on India, citing the country’s large-scale purchases of Russian oil and its resale on global markets for profit.
Kokcha News Agency – US President Donald Trump has declared that he will impose a substantial increase in tariffs on India due to its large-scale purchases of Russian oil and the resale of a portion of that oil on global markets for profit. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated, “India is not only buying large amounts of Russian oil but also selling a significant portion of it on global markets at high profits. They don’t care about the people killed by the Russian war machine in Ukraine.”
Trump announced that, as a result, the US will significantly raise the tariffs India pays on its exports to the United States. This move comes amid ongoing tensions between the US and Russia, particularly in the context of the war in Ukraine, where the US has imposed severe sanctions on Russia, including restrictions on its oil exports.
India, which has maintained a neutral stance in the conflict, has continued to purchase Russian oil at discounted prices, taking advantage of the global energy market shifts caused by the war. However, this has drawn criticism from Western nations, including the US, which view such purchases as indirectly funding Russia’s military operations in Ukraine.
