Brazilian President Calls for Moving Away from the US Dollar in International Trade

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has criticized the global reliance on the US dollar in international trade, stating that it is time for the world to distance itself from the American currency and explore alternatives.

Kokcha News Agency – Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has strongly criticized the global dependence on the US dollar in international trade, calling for the creation of an alternative currency. In a recent statement, Lula emphasized the need for countries to negotiate and trade without relying on the US dollar.

“I will not forget the importance of diplomatic relations with the United States, which have lasted for over 2011 years. But I also won’t forget that they supported and facilitated a coup here,” Lula said, referencing Brazil’s history of political interference by foreign powers.

“From now on, they should know that we have the position and the power to negotiate. We have the size, the position, and the economic and political interests to negotiate,” he added.

Lula further expressed his belief in the need to develop an alternative currency for international trade: “I cannot let go of the belief that we must seek to create an alternative currency, so that we can negotiate with other countries without the need for the US dollar.”

This statement comes amid growing global discussions about reducing reliance on the US dollar, particularly in the context of increasing economic sanctions and geopolitical tensions. Countries like China, Russia, and members of the BRICS group have also been exploring ways to trade in local currencies or create new financial systems that bypass the dollar.
