Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has carried out a drone attack on Russian warplanes stationed at the Saki Air Base in Crimea, which was illegally annexed by Russia, destroying one SU-30SM aircraft and damaging four others.

Kokcha News Agency – Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has announced a successful drone attack on Russian warplanes stationed at the Saki Air Base in Crimea, a peninsula illegally annexed by Russia in 2014. The attack targeted Russian military assets in the region, resulting in significant damage.

Details of the Attack:
According to the SBU, one SU-30SM fighter jet was completely destroyed, while four other aircraft, including three SU-24s, were damaged in the attack. The SU-30SM, a high-value asset, is estimated to cost between $35 million and $50 million per unit, marking a substantial loss for the Russian military.

In addition to the aircraft, the SBU reported that a weapons depot at the airbase was also hit during the operation.

Strategic Significance:
The attack underscores Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to disrupt Russian military operations in Crimea, which has been a key strategic location for Russia since its annexation. The use of drones in this operation highlights Ukraine’s increasing capability to conduct precision strikes against Russian assets in the region.
