Swedish Prime Minister Faces Criticism for Using ChatGPT in Decision-Making
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has come under fire after admitting to regularly using ChatGPT and similar AI tools to assist in his duties, sparking concerns over the role of AI in political decision-making.
Kokcha News Agency – Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has revealed that he frequently uses artificial intelligence (AI) tools like ChatGPT to seek a “second opinion” in his work. Kristersson also stated that other cabinet members rely on AI in their daily tasks.
However, the announcement has drawn criticism from technology experts and media outlets, who expressed concerns over the use of AI in political decision-making. The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet accused Kristersson of “falling into the oligarchs’ AI psychosis,” while Simone Fischer-Hübner, a computer scientist at Karlstad University, warned against using such tools, especially when handling sensitive security information.
Prime Minister’s spokesperson Tom Samuelsson defended Kristersson, stating that the AI tools are only used for idea exchange and in areas that do not pose security risks.
Experts Warn Against Overreliance on AI:
Virginia Dignum, Professor of Responsible AI at Umea University, cautioned that AI is not sufficient for generating political ideas and merely reflects the perspectives of its developers. She warned, “The more we rely on AI for simple tasks, the greater the risk of overconfidence in the system. This is a slippery slope. We did not choose ChatGPT.”
