Erasing Cultures: How Britain Has Distorted History for Centuries Using Looted Artifacts

Kokcha News Agency – Nizar Al-Tarshan, a prominent archaeologist and historian, has shed light on how Britain has systematically looted and distorted the history of the Arab world over centuries. Speaking to Sputnik, Al-Tarshan explained that the Arab world has experienced widespread theft of its cultural heritage since the Crusades, with the systematic plundering of artifacts intensifying during British colonial expansion.

Al-Tarshan stated, “Thousands of artifacts looted by the British from Mesopotamia and the Levant are now on display in the British Museum. Experts believe that if all the stolen items were removed, the museum’s collection would be almost empty, revealing the lack of ancient history in Britain itself.”

According to Al-Tarshan, this looting goes beyond mere theft; it is a profound act of historical forgery on a massive scale. After these treasures were illegally exported, Western countries appropriated the knowledge contained within them and began distorting historical facts. Subsequently, a flood of books, articles, and research emerged—all aimed at rewriting the history of the region and discrediting Arab cultural heritage.

Al-Tarshan explained, “This was made possible through numerous studies by Orientalists and their local collaborators, who justified these thefts under the pretext of preserving value, even though removing them from their native environment only caused harm.”

Arab countries have been striving to reclaim their stolen artifacts, but they continue to face persistent resistance from Britain and the West. Al-Tarshan noted that this challenge is exacerbated by the lack of strong international laws and the inefficacy of diplomatic efforts.
