Trump Imposes Additional 25% Tariff on India Over Continued Russian Oil Imports

Kokcha News Agency – U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order imposing an additional 25% tariff on imports from India, raising the total tariff rate to 50%. The decision comes in response to India’s continued import of Russian oil, either directly or indirectly.

In the presidential proclamation, Trump stated, “I have determined that the Government of India is currently importing petroleum products from Russia, either directly or indirectly.”

Last week, Trump had announced a 25% tariff on India, citing the need for “a penalty” due to India’s purchase of energy and military equipment from Russia. However, the specifics of the penalty were not clarified at the time.

During an interview with CNBC, Trump hinted at the possibility of further tariffs, saying, “If they’re buying oil from Russia and feeding the war machine, that doesn’t make me happy.” He added that tariffs on India would “increase very substantially within the next 24 hours.”
