Forest Fire Near Athens, Greece, Brought Under Control; At Least One Person Killed
A forest fire near Athens, Greece, has been brought under control after raging for two days, leaving at least one person dead and destroying homes, farmland, and olive groves.
Kokcha News Agency: A forest fire that broke out near the town of Keratea on the Attica peninsula, southeast of Athens, has been brought under control after two days of intense efforts by firefighting teams. The fire, which started on Friday afternoon, forced the evacuation of civilians from the area.
Strong winds fueled the flames, which destroyed several homes, agricultural land, and olive groves in Keratea. Tragically, at least one person lost their life in the fire. Firefighters discovered the body of an elderly man in his home near the area where the fire originated.
This fire is one of more than 50 wildfires that have erupted in Greece over the past 24 hours, affecting various parts of the country, including the tourist island of Kefalonia.
